It's undoubtedly a scam. I've not had many recently although I quite enjoy them when they happen. My most recent wheeze was to waste the caller's time by asking if they believe in God (invariably they do). Once we've discussed God for a while I'll ask what they imagine God thinks of the scam they're involved in and if it's likely that they'll go to Hell as a result. Strangely, the line always goes dead at about this point.
