Thanks Phil, I don't appear to have an 'On this iPad' button. When I choose the iPhone it's there but there's nothing for the iPad. I have found a way but it's very clumsy.
Turn off iTunes match on the ipad. . Then choose songs and delete each one by swiping to the left. If I do it this way I'll be at it until tonight. There has to be a better way!
