IMac 20 inch screen from 2007, Macintosh HD, 4GB memory, 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
OSX 10.9.2

The Open Office problem is now fixed since they released an update today.
Hooray. Part of the problem might just have been be to do with a conflict with
security - I have the box ticked for just trusting Apple software
downloads...???

As regards my wife's Safari. I turned off the extensions (there were none
anyway). The problem persists. I don't think it's anything to do with Safari
any more. Everything in her part of the computer takes ages to operate. I'm
considering now that it might be the perpetual Time Machine problem running in
the background................. I habitually cure this by turning the backup
disk off and then on again.....
