Well, it's of no practical use to you right now :-) but "What else can I try?" & "I'd rather switch provider than go through that again (or buy new router which was the solution last time after endless calls)." might lead you to Zen. They are brilliant, but pricier and as a result they are pretty much trouble free and when there's an issue their support staff are superb. One time in Hove they tested my line speed, did something else down my line and even reprogrammed something at the BT exchange whilst I was on the phone to them! PC Pro mag have given them Best Broadband ISP for the 10th successive year.
Cheap(er) broadband usually has an associated cost and it's usually annoying service, which of course you overlook most of the time until something goes wrong and then you are find out why its cheaper as you deal with annoying "support". Zen contracts are 1 month long so if you no like, just cancel. I have no association with Zen at all, they are just the best ISP I've used. ... But as I said, all this doesn't help right now. Sorry... Have any of your neighbours got similar issues to you? Something nasty happening in the cabinet? (Not number 10!) There may be something going on in the area that is affecting everyone.
