Hi Stephen When you want to restart your Mac, do you go to the Apple menu > restart? Or do you hold the power button down until it switches off?
<silliness> When you are driving at 40mph on an appropriate road and need to stop, do you indicate and pull over, allowing your car to stop gracefully? Or is your engine on fire and you need to dive Hollywood-style out of the car letting it career off a precipice into a lake? :D </silliness> A standard shutdown will stop any processes running and allow all files to be closed off safely. Any data cached in ram is written to the relevant files. With a reset, any open files are left as they were when they were last saved and any cached data is lost. Fortunately for an iOS device this is much less likely to cause a problem as data is written to the storage a lot more frequently than on a Mac.
