Bit of a coincidence here Virginia 'cause I'm planning on scanning my late Mum's 1943 war diary. The problem I have is that she wrote in really small handwriting (don't know why she didn't select a larger font size :-) using a fountain pen and time has left the writing smudged as the ink has migrated into the paper. I'm wondering about scanning and then experimenting with Photoshop to increase the contrast and hopefully make the diaries more legible. I also wonder if there's any character recognition applications out there that could "learn" my Mum's handwriting?
