This may be unconnected, but I had the same problem with my iPad Air 2 after I 
installed iOS7. It would sometimes work, but sometimes I’d have to restart the 
iPad and then it would be fine until I switched off mobile data and didn’t use 
it for a week. Next time I’d switch on Mobile Data, it was “No service” and I’d 
repeat the process.

I updated my iPad to iOS8 and it now behaves perfectly every time! :-)

May be utterly irrelevant in your case, but may still be useful for others …
