Without knowing what email features you regard as key, any app will do. My vote is for Apple's own Mail app.
I use a Google Mail account to filter out junk, forwarding what remains in the GMail Inbox to my Apple mail account. Seems to work pretty well and has done for years. Apple Mail seems to behave itself when there is only one mail account, especially when it is an Apple Mail one.
