I upgraded a late-2008 MacBook Pro to Sierra - not allowed by Apple but possible anyway. Considerable improvement over Yosemite in my view. Only downside so far is that camera no longer recognised in System Report - not an issue for me.
Better battery life. Siri. Dare I say, better iCloud integration. Worth the gamble.
