You’d need either an Apple Thunderbolt Display (which uses DisplayPort) or a 
DisplayPort display. Mini DisplayPort uses the same physical connector as 
thunderbolt. I have two Del QHD displays : 
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00X4W3VVG/ and two DisplayPort to Mini 
DisplayPort cables, works flawlessly  and the resolution is stunning.
