It’s a mid 2010 2.93GHz Core i7 Rob with 8GB memory and a 2TB HD.

The basic conundrum I have is whether to risk the considerable expense of 
updating the HD to SSD or Fusion when the iMac is so long in the tooth and 
could fail terminally at any moment. It already behaves somewhat strangely at 
times (Disk First Aid says the HD is fine), and it has a 
slight cast across the display.

I guess the snag with swapping to a Mac Mini and something like the display 
that Sam linked to (thanks Sam) is that finding an affordable used Mini with 
better performance than the existing iMac looks a bit of a stretch. The Mac 
Mini range is so old now it looks to me like it’s been rather left behind on 
the performance front. 

Suggestions anybody?
