If it were me, I’d replace the 1TB with a 1TB SSD, but a 500GB model would also 
be ok, you’d just end up with 100GB free space instead of 600GB.

You’ve already got 8GB RAM so I don’t think you’d see a huge boost from 8-16GB, 
certainly not as big as installing the SSD.

You’ll also need a thermal sensor cable which supplies the SSD temperature to 
the system and keeps the fans happy.
