Yes, definitely "student discount" and oftentimes a 'back to school' promo 
that means she'd get some headphones or something, thrown in.

On that, there's rumours a newer low end MacBook might be released soon. 
Although, if one waits solely on rumors.....

Certainly ask the Uni dept. for software suggestions, and indeed they might 
have 'Uni' licensing, again, meaning there are much better prices for 
things like Office etc - if not potentially free access under their terms.
