Hi Gilly and everyone
You’re welcome - and I forgot to add that as others have suggested the
university will almost certainly provide software for free or at greatly
reduced cost so I would wait before paying for anything except hardware. Best
of luck to her, and I offer my traditional advice - don’t spend a penny in the
first week joining societies or clubs, they will still be there a couple of
weeks later but first years traditionally spend a lot of money straightaway
then never get round to the things they paid for;)
Thanks,
-Jason

Hi Jason,
Many thanks for your helpful advice.
Thank you, too, for your encouraging endorsement of Jasmine’s course. She will
be thrilled.
Best regards,
Gilly

Hi everyone
As someone who works in a uni it’s almost certain that the discount is normally
‘checked’ by you ordering from a university Compuetrr so I would recommend
ringing or speaking to someone in an Apple store in person as they may be able
to give access to better prices. In the past we have found that there are
different levels of education discount depending how you go about it. That may
or may not still be the case.
And many congratulations to her - that is a very highly thought-of course!
Thanks,
-Jason

Yes, definitely "student discount" and oftentimes a 'back to school' promo
that means she'd get some headphones or something, thrown in.
On that, there's rumours a newer low end MacBook might be released soon.
Although, if one waits solely on rumors.....
Certainly ask the Uni dept. for software suggestions, and indeed they might
have 'Uni' licensing, again, meaning there are much better prices for things
like Office etc - if not potentially free access under their terms.
A lovely present indeed, Gillian!
Bye for now,
Adam

morning Smuggers,
I am about to buy a new Macbook Air for my granddaughter, as a "going to Uni
present". She has been accepted into the Business & Management School at
Warwick University, and will be specialising in international Management.
Can anyone advise me what programs would be beneficial to her (apart from the
ones that come with the computer). I would be grateful for advice.
Gilly
