It all seems to be back now.

The service outage that affected iCloud and me.com was I think on tope of the 
server fault that took some mac.com email addresses down. Interestingly, the 
support guy at Apple I spoke to advised that I should try and move to a me.com 
address rather than a mac.com. He gave the impression that Apple are not so 
quick to support their mac.com servers these days 'cause not that many people 
still use mac.com addresses.
