Thanks for the suggestion Jason, but the CD won't mount at all, even with Disk Utility. Fortunately I have another back-up on a removable hard drive, but it is sad to have lost my main back up and now only have one copy. I don't think I will need many of the files as some date back to 2008. But I agree with some of the comments on the Apple discussion page that Apple should have made it clear that those CDs would no longer be supported to give everyone a chance to source another method of backing them up.
