Happy day after Boxing Day, all!

Quick query about Apple Watches. My partner is considering getting an Apple
Watch for her mum - probably a refurb older series - who lives on her own and
might benefit from the peace of mind of having the emergency SOS function on
her wrist.

Hence, we were considering the cellular version in case she needs the emergency
SOS function while out of reach of her iPhone.

Can anyone tell me whether a separate data plan is required for the cellular
version of the Apple Watch? I have done some cursory research which suggests a
separate data plan is required but it must be with the same provider as that of
the iPhone she already has. I have also seen some chatter that if the watch is
purchased from the existing iPhone data provider, then there will be no
additional cost for the additional Watch data plan.

Apologies this might be a bit off topic but any insight would be useful.
