Wesley Clark's Campaign Shake-up

What's behind the resignation this week of Wesley Clark's campaign manager, Donnie Fowler? Foul and fishy business, it seems.

Fowler was upset that Beltway insiders were dissing the grassroots supporters who used the Internet to draft Clark.

Stirling Newberry, an early leader in the run-Clark-run movement, now is railing against the campaign as a "cozy little inside operation ... of people who ran Gore's campaign into the ground," the Wall Street Journal's Washington Wire column revealed last week. These Gore handlers, Mark Fabiani and Chris Lehane, have another loser on their resume: Gray Davis.

U.S. News reports that Bruce Lindsey, "Bill Clinton's longtime handler, consigliore, and taskmaster has been brought on board to crack the whip."

All this means one of two things:

1. Clark plans a serious campaign and is getting the professional staff he needs to win the nomination. Hillary potentially joins as VP candidate.

2. The Clintonista crowd will sabotage the campaign to make way for the late arrival and coronation of Queen Hillary.
