LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - "Jake 2.0" will make it all the way through
Season 1.0.
UPN has ordered the back nine episodes of its sole new drama this season,
giving the show a chance to carve out a niche in the brutally competitive 9
p.m. Wednesday slot. "Jake's" ratings usually don't rise above the 2.0 of
the title, but the network is pleased with the show creatively.
"'Jake 2.0' is a fresh twist on the superhero genre, and we're really
pleased with the quality of the show, the talented cast and the creative
team behind it," UPN Entertainment President Dawn Ostroff says in a
statement.
Christopher Gorham ("Popular") stars as the title character, a National
Security Agency computer geek who acquires extraordinary powers when a lab
accident injects "nanites" -- microscopic robots -- into his bloodstream.
He has superhuman strength and sensory powers and can network with any
computer.
Silvio Horta ("The Chronicle") created the series and serves as an executive
producer with David Greenwalt ("Angel," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Gina
Matthews and Grant Scharbo.
The series is averaging just over 2.6 million viewers a week opposite "The
Bachelor," "Angel" and "The O.C." -- all of which target the same young
viewers as "Jake 2.0" -- as well as the older-skewing "The West Wing" and
"The King of Queens."
That's not great, but on par with what "The Twilight Zone" did in the
timeslot last season. It's holding on to about 68 percent of the audience
from its lead-in, "Enterprise" (3.8 million viewers).
