#2 Britney Spears
After taking a yearlong retirement to search for her true
identity and recover from all the buzz over her breakup with Justin Timberlake,
Britney Spears came back with a vengeance this year. Gone were the bobby socks
and plaid schoolgirl skirts as she posed for magazine cover after cover, baring
a lot more than her soul--she went topless for Rolling Stone and bottomless for
Esquire. Britney, who turned 22 in December, also became the talk of the MTV
Video Music Awards when she shared an intimate lip lock with Madonna. Britney's
new album, "In the Zone," went straight to the top of the charts after its
November release, making her the first female singer to have four No. 1 albums
in a row. Proving her superstar status, Britney also earned a star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame, making her the world's youngest singer to ever receive
the honor.
