What is the environment your service is running in, e.g. operating system, JDK version, servlet container? Have you looked at the network traffic with an OS tool (e.g. Network Monitor on Win2k or tcpdump on Linux) or a relay (e.g. TcpTunnelGui, tcpTrace, proxyTrace)?
