The original (remanufactured) starter motors had a wide tolerance. I
had one that was too short. The new starter motors made in India
have a much better tolerance. Try http://www.injoy-1.com/catal_sail.htm
If it is not much, put it in a lathe or drill press and use some
Crocus Cloth to work it down a bit.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions on how to get my motor to fit
my Real Balls. I have a Tim McCann winch kit. The motor shaft will
not fit the drum.
