It's probably over kill but I use metal in EVERYTHING regardless of its
place on the plane. When your dealing with an airframe that costs $1200,
$1500,
$1800+ the difference cost in the servo is miniscule

I couldn't agree more!

I've recently decided to use all metal gear in my planes too.

I have even recently switched to metal servo wires and connectors. The
speed that everything works at is dramatic from when I was using plastic or
nylon
wire, but my batteries tend to run down now...however I did notice that my
chargers seem to work since the change.
