I have been home from the NATs a couple of days now and have had time to
reflect on my week at glider camp.
I was unprepared and out of practice so my already no chance in #$%^ was
amplified. So what, I am here to have fun and learn.
I saw how some guys had hooked things up, built things and sovled problems
that I have had or may run into. Some of their soltions were better than mine
some made me wonder worked.
I Learned that I need to have a plane that is trimmed and ready to fly. That I
need to have put in the time practicing. When I have put in the time, practice
more.
I meet some people that I have know only through e-mail or PM conversations,
my life is richer for that. I got to see people that I have not seen in a long
time, I'll cut down the cycle time guys.
I did lousey, at the bottom or very near. I still had a blast and was never
discouraged. I had to scratch in 2M. With nothing better to do with my time I
volenteered on the flight line. I have been to club contest and helped, you
have to or it would be an even longer time between flights. The manpower it
took to run the flight line for glider camp is unbelievable. To all the guys
that have done this in the NATs I have attended before, THANK YOU!!!
As I reflect on the whole camp experince I think that even had I pulled it out
of my rear end and placed or even won I recieved the most satisfaction from
helping it run.
So next time you guys go to a club contest give a hand to those that do the
little things to make it work. Better yet, shag a chute once in a while. It
will make the whole experince better.
Joe, the guy that had so much fun that I am coming back to do it again next
year despite brining up the rear all week!!!
