This is a very interesting thread.  While I am no expert, I have been chucking a 
micro HLG most of this summer and would like to
put my humble opinion in.
   I threw a javelin in high school and studied the physics of thowing.  Obviously the 
javelin has miniumal lift so you must release
it at a point in the arc of the throw that achieves a launch angle which results in a 
path of flight that peaks just as the javelin
has lost most of its horizontal energy. Too high a release and you just waste energy 
in the vertical. Too low a release and gravity
pulls the javelin down while it still has a lot of horizontal energy and expends it in 
the earth. The correct form of the throw
involves the run-up, sprint with your cg forward, allow your cg to shift rearward 
while you plant your leg with your throwing arm
fully extended rearward. Full arm extension during the throw and the weight transfer, 
the javelin then leaves the hand (with the
benefit of the energy added by the wrist rotation arch as well) before it hits 90 deg 
so it is travels up and out.
  Now look at the baseball pitch or even better, the Cricket pitch which involves a 
run up. Here, distance is not the issue.
Velocity is king and I am sure the if one used objects of equal mass, the cricket 
pitch velocity would beat out the javelin throw
velocity every time.
  It occured to me while watching Joe W. in the 3 Rs video, that to achieve that 
launch speed, he had to maintain his forward finger
grip on his Encore through almost the full 180 deg of the throwing arc. This would 
collapse the wings on 90% of the HLGs and MHLGs
the rest of us have.  So we must either, throw with less velocity or release earlier 
and throw up.
  So what is the correct thow for a HLG? answer: Run fast, plant your foot while 
having maximum rearward arm extention, transition
your weight forward to the other foot while your arm maintaining full extention 
through an arc and let go of the forward finger grip
just before the wings collapse. If you can do this to horizontal then you need a bit 
of up elevator for the climb. If you have to
release earlier, you don't need as much up elevator and if you just throw up, brush 
your teeth to get rid of the bad taste.
