I had a recent experience where I was promised a plane in 2-3 weeks.  
When it didn't come I checked in with the mfg. (a cottage industry company
of good rep) and was informed that they were having trouble with their
wood supplier and laser cutter, so just be patient and keep in touch.  I
was, I did, and I got my kit - behind schedule but with no hard feelings.

Information is key!  A customer's frustration can rapidly become sympathy
if the seller of the kit keeps his buyer informed.
