Ron and others,
The Sparrowhawk is the brainchild of one Greg Cole, who formerly flew with
us in Dayton at the DARTS club. Greg is with Lancair now and is the head
designer of the Columbia 300 that Lancair is coming out with. Greg was
ahead of the crowd and was the first in our club with bagged wings and such.
He has also done stints with the Cirrus folks in Wis. and McCauley Props.
The last time I saw Greg he showed me the drawings for the Sparrowhawk and
pictures of the plugs that he had at the house, he is one origginal guy and
a great RC stick.

If you truly love soaring, you owe it to yourself to go to the following
website:
http://www.windward-performance.com/
Fine, this ain't R/C but sure is close to scale soaring...Full Scale that
is...
Can you imagine a "true, real, full-scale" sailplane with 36.5' wingspan,
32:1 L/D, 123knots max speed, +5.48/-4.00 G's, ALL PRE-PREG CARBON, all
basic instrumentation, 155lbs (ready for you to strap-on and launch with
your old Ford Escort or even a bungee, for $25K (I guess equivalent to about
10x$2K high-performance and/or large scale R/C gliders plus expenses) you
could own and fly without paying property taxes for, no need for
certification, no need for registration and no need for a pilot's license
(although strongly suggested due to the high performance of this ULTRA-LIGHT
SAILPLANE!!)?!?!?!
Well, I still haven't got that kind of money but it sure has caught my
attention! I can now see how to realize my dream of owning my own full size
sailplane!
I called the mild mannered but enthusiastic and very knowledgeable Greg
Cole, the designer/builder of this sailplane and he is a God-sent to many of
us who are or would be quite concerned with safety and performance, not to
mention price or rather "value", in order to consider full size soaring.
I know I will not let go of my R/C soaring addiction for the Sparrowhawk
(expected to be flying by this summer!), but it sure has prompted me to
start saving $$ for this dream.
Hope this helps others who share this dream.
Best wishes,
Ron Piskulich
