I've often wondered if you could some how cobble together an annemometor using an
optical tachometer (of they type used for power r/c models), and some sort of well
balanced fan (a electric ducted fan unit perhaps?). Based on what I've seen, this is
how the expensive commerical types do it. Of course, the display would output rpm,
not mph, so you would need to do a conversion. Wonder if there would be any way to
modify the display, or maybe use the optical pickup on some other unit, like the bike
one?
