Hi dentalguy,
I will respond to the Spirit 100 questions.
It is a fair beginners plane if built carefully and light. This means that you may 
have to throw away some
of the kit wood and buy lighter balsa, unless you have a pre built plane.
Build by the plans and when ready to fly have someone check for washout in the tips.
I would recommend a Paragon for a really good training plane but fly what you have and 
learn.
