It is one thing to be an advocate for a product that you are fond of and use regularly but it is entirely another thing to be a shill for a manufacturer and not represent it as such. You are getting paid for the website, correct? You are affiliated closely with the developer of that plane, correct?
Have you ever flown the XP3? The Taboo? Seen either of them flown? There are actually many differences between them especially in the pod design. I've seen them both fly at the IHLGF and was very impressed by both. I didn't see you at that contest and haven't seen the plane you use fly, so I can make no comparison on the flight characteristics of your model. I did notice however the similarity between the plane you use and a number of other models on the market. No harm in that, really. It's just that holding one very familiar-looking product up against two other similar-looking products and calling the former unique is amusing. I understand that your plane took first and second place out of about 6 competitors in the Texas National tournament. Impressive. Yes, the price is attractive on that particular model, but compare booms, wing skin, leading edge material, spar material, and proven contest reliability and the reason for the price difference becomes clearer. The Polecat XP3G has a glass and all-spiderfoam wing for only $269. You mention that you've run your own tests on your plane but don't give quantitative results, only a qualified statement of "Impressive for a sport DLG". How exactly does a "sport DLG" differ from another type of DLG? Would that "Impressive" launch height for your sport DLG be disappointing for a "competition" DLG? As stated innumerable times previously, at the top levels, it's the musician not the instrument. Tracy >>> Mike Kovacs <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 06/07/02 02:01PM >>> I love this hobby...aviation is my passion. I believe you must determine for yourself whether you are in DLG for the sport or the hobby. I fly the Avenger 2 DLG from Jancomodels at http://www.jancomodels.com The Avenger is a Sport DLG for the new DLGer. It flies great, launches great, and is comparitively cheap. It doesn't use the AG airfoils, but uses airfoils that were tested against actual built wings, not on some computer. Last year I was flying a Kummero Evo and launching javelin. I am a new DLGer. Some are telling me that I will find out at the Mid-South how the Avenger stands against the Taboos and XP3's. Actually, I think they will find out how they stand against the Avenger. By the way, isn't the TabooXL and XP3 the same plane? I have done my own experiments with my Avenger on launch height and dead air times. Results: Impressive for a sport DLG. The hobby of DLG's is to launch without killing the body and find some lift for fun and satisfaction. The sport of DLG's is to squeek out as many seconds as possible. What do you want to pay for? Maximum fun and satisfaction for your buck or as many seconds for your buck? ===== Mike Kovacs http://home.houston.rr.com/kovacs/ links to Hand-Launch Gliders Houston Hawks RC Soaring Club Janco Models __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
