Has anybody gotten the chance to use one of the new FMA Extreme receivers in a crowded rf environment yet? They look nice, but so did the Tetra, and I already have a soldering iron rest.
thanks - Rob Glover

Hi Rob,
I did the review on it in RCSD about a year ago.  Tom Hoopes did a bunch of tough testing on it too for the review and it has turned out to be the best thing we have seen in a small RX.....and its GONE!!!

Replaced by a new version which has a new even smarter chip.
The Tetra RX was perfect... for what it was designed for....not HLG use or anyother crowded environment, and was the best 'mistake' FMA ever made, well the best for us all.  They learned a bunch out where small RX's would be used and that they would have to exceed anything ever produced in the past for any RC application.

While as usual we RC Sailplaner tried our best to bury FMA with bad press, they managed to survive our efforts to push them into business death, and managed to continue new product development....same as Hitec, Volz and others who dare attempt to stick their necks out in efforts to create new and better products for us.

Check out their website for the new M5, here's a press release with lots of details on the new M5.

Press Release for M5 FMA Direct M5 Dual Conversion Receiver. You don’t have to compromise performance for size in a full-performance receiver anymore. The new FMA M5 is the smallest, lightest dual conversion receiver available today. The M5 is designed for models where size and weight make a difference such as in park flyers, helicopters, indoor models, HLG, sailplanes, and all electric models. Yet, the outstanding reliability and performance of M5 lets you use it in all planes even up to quarter scale. The M5 lets you fly with any number of other models at the same time indoors, in the park, or at a contest or fly-in with even higher performance than the legendary Extreme 5. M5 has been qualified by flying a six-foot, 60 powered model to over 2,000 ft altitude, collapsing the transmitter antenna, and flying as one would normally fly. This is not a "500 ft" receiver! The M5 features the FMA Direct "S.M.A.R.T." decoder which digitally filters the received signal from noise providing "fail-safe" type protection for any standard FM/PPM system. The M5 is "dialed-in" to listen to only your transmitter, isolating your signal even in the toughest conditions. S.M.A.R.T. decoding has been demonstrated to function so well that having a second transmitter on-frequency turn on with its antenna collapsed to half length did not interfere with the receiver. Yet, when the primary transmitter was turned off, the one with the collapsed antenna had complete control! Specifications: Size 1.3" X 0.80" X 0.58". Weight 9 grams (0.3 oz.). Five-channels. Dual conversion. Antenna length is 39.75 inches (1/4 wavelength). The antenna can be cut to as little as 18 inches without detuning so there is no need for a base-loaded antenna. Sensitivity > -93 dbm. Image rejection >63 db. Third order intermodulation Intercept Point (3OIP) is > 9 dbm. Adjacent channel rejection is 55 db at +&- 8 KHz from center frequency and > 70 db @ 20 KHz from center (Next channel over). Ultimate rejection is >> 75 db. The proprietary passive double- balanced mixer and AGC in the first and second IF gives a dynamic range > 90 db. Housed in a durable heat shrink cover. Accepts the industry-standard 3-pin connector for servos and batteries. Header pins are gold plated. NOTE: Any "old Airtronics" servo and battery leads must be connected using Z-adapters or the servo shells and battery shell must be changed to use the industry standard J connector shell (FMA P/N SHELLSEJ) . Uses FMA RXQTM half-height crystals and can be operated on any channel in the specified band without retuning. Hitec dual conversion crystals can be used in M5, but are full height. Available for either FSK shift. Specify J for JR/Airtronics and F for all others. Initial availability will be for 72 MHz with availability on other  bands to follow. Watch the website for announcement of availability. Current drain < 19 ma.
