The short answer to the problem for AOL'ers is the HTML thing is what AOL 
defaults to "out of the box". In versions between 5.0 and 7.0, you can change 
this in a dialog box in preferences.  In 8.0, it seems you can maybe change 
each outgoing mail one at a time on a case-by-case basis, but the settings 
don't save, so you have to re-do it every time you post (bummer!) I don't 
have the problem myself, I'm still on version 4.0 on my mac;-)

The ultimate solution, however,  seems to be to update the software that 
powers the listserver, so that it would just strip the HTML out of incoming 
posts, or something like that.  That would probably cost a little money, but 
I'd be willing to send a buck or two in somewhere if it would get rid of all 
the HTML garbage in the digest.  I bet a number of other digest readers 
would, too.

 Anybody know who manages this list?  Could we get a read on the 
feasibility/expense required?
