Craig,
While I am often at odds with the LSF's "mission" and methods to achieve
that mission...I have to say that the LSF and volunteers (and AMA to some
extent) put on a great contest and event. It is more of an event at times
than a contest (like Visalia), it is a great contest as well...worth the
national champion title.
The key though to your comments is location. What you should do is find
a location, field, and local volunteers to run an event for 120-150
competitors for a week. If you can do that, then the thought could be
entertained. But the key is that YOU need to step forward as a volunteer
and help to make something like that happen. The AMA NAts will still exist,
that fight is long gone and to be honest...unnecessary. But if you want to
have a revolving LSF event that can move around the country...then you need
to be prepared to do a lot of the work.
Also...by moving it around the country, those people need to support
it...even if not in their back yard. I'm going to pick on the California
crowd...but it is not in malice! Take the NATS and Visalia. Perhaps 1/4 of
the people at Visalia (when I went about 3, 4, and 5 years ago) were from
out of the state. People came from everywhere...east coast, west coast,
central. Everyone supported the event. Take the NATS this year. I think 2
Californians were there...perhaps 4-5? I don't have the exact stats...but
the ratio is way skewed. Visalia is really a nationwide contest...the
NATS...mainly an eastern US contest. So if you want a contest in your area,
you have to show the willingness to support the contest if it is in another
area. I personally don't see that except in a few very notable exceptions!

Subject: [RCSE] LSF tied to Nats Why????
In the good old days when LSF was founded the idea was to move the
LSF contest around the country so people from all over the country
could participate and we did.
The NATS was the NATS, so who decided that putting them together and
making them a Midwest only thing was such a good idea.
Maybe Its time we separate the NATS from the LSF contest and start
moving it around the country once again!!!!
Only my opinion but I'm sticking to it :-)
Sincerely,
Craig D. Allen LSF 111
