I agree that if you want to go to a fly-in it doesn't matter much where it is.
You just jump in the Piper Vagabond or whatever and fly to Oshkosh or Arlington
WA or whichever and attend. You need only have money for fuel, cabs, motels,
meals, etc.

Trying to fly by commercial airline with a week's supply of planes, radios,
chargers, etc is not exactly the same thing especially in this post 911 era.
Did you catch the news today that airport security is being ask to fuss even
more over electronics devices such as radios, cameras, chargers, etc.

I grew up at an airport (Barker Air Service, Mt Vernon, WA) and have fond
memories of getting up at 3AM so I could spend the morning carrying 50 lb
sacks of Rotanone up a ladder to dump in a J-3 so my dad could put it on
some 2 acre strawberry patch. Later in the morning I could drive the courtesy
car over to a pea patch and serve as a target while someone sprayed Parithyon
around.

Enjoy your fly-ins but don't compare them with the Nats. The travel method is
not the same.
