Chuck,
Thanks for the kind words :-)
The model with the "Norm/New" switch was something that Don was misinformed about, when I get one in the shop, I remove it, It doesn't do what it was intended to do.
All NEW packs, and any that have been taken down to zero volts (Switch left on) need to be "Formed", that is slow charged with a 1/10th C charge for 24 hours , once, then cycled at least 3 times for them to hold full capacity.
The reason manufacturers don't recommend fast charging is because ALL fast chargers (EXCEPT the Sirius line) use Delta peak detection, which means that they overcharge the battery to determine the peak. (Bad for batteries).
NASA found that a 1 hour charge was the best for NiCd batteries, they then proceeded to figure out how to do that without overcharging to find the peak.
This is the system we use in our charge system. The problem with modelers, is that they want to charge many different size packs. We can push the envelope only so far, then it isn't as beneficial. The fact that we use a peak prediction, means we never overcharge which is helpful, but the further away from the 1 hour charge we get the less benefit we get from the rest of the charging parameters built into the charge circuit.
The new web site does not have a secure socket layer, so I won't be getting orders directly from the web site, you will still have to call the shop.
We are getting rid of the need to fill in all the data on line. you will still be able to fill it out if you like so that when we do get a "shopping Cart" system you will be in the system, but I don't want it to be necessary to get the phone number.
Hope this helps
George

Hi All,
Been trying to get a new web site up for about a year now, finally succeeded :-). Still has some things that need attention, but at least it is running.
Check it out

I tried to order a Super Test Pro from your web site but it bombed when going to the secure connection. I have a Super Test but it can't test the six cell batteries in my Cockpit and Evo transmitters.

Back in 1995, I bought one of the first Smart Charge Pro fast chargers while at Visalia. That version had an extra switch labeled NORM and NEW. This switch was not on later Smart Charge. What was the purpose of that switch? I see that some sources recommend charging new batteries for 16 hours on a normal charger before using fast chargers. Was this the function of the NEW switch?

I won't risk my models on any other charger.
