Capn', nice report! It's always nice to read about your buds flying even if you are stuck to a keyboard working all weekend. Sounds like you all got some good flights in. All I want to know is... did anybody get Johnny's flameout on video? 8-)

The weather reports were calling for Crap all weekend in the Muncie Area, where the Dayton Aero Tow was to be Held.
The 3 hour Ride to AMA Hq,was uneventful, as we were driving into foreboding gray and sometimes wet skies, .
We arrived at the site to Note that Paul Siegle and Brother were towing with an Electric Rascal, and an MPX ASW 27 of the 100 inch variety.
One of the Last display Models, that Karlton Had built, I have the 72 inch model.. That was strange !!
The weather was gray, winds outta the North at 5 to 15, but Karen And I knew that the weather would be getting better.
Paul was a little disgruntled, at the Lack of attendance, even talked of not having the event Next Year;
But he soon changed his mind, (I Hope) as the day progressed.
I brought the S.O.A.R - TOW, a Kangue Rearwind Speedster with a ZDZ-50, as a Tow Plane, and My HF Models Ventus 2AX from Endless Mountain Models.
A Note on the Models. The Rearwind Speedster is an Arf from Kangue, its an OK platform for Tugging, it works my 25-28 pound Ventus with no effort. I think the ZDZ 50 with a 22-8 Bamba Prop is probably too Much for the Airframe, but is a really good reliable power plant to date. I will be soon looking for a Wilga type airframe in the 110 inch area as a next project, I think.
The Ventus 2AX, is a 5.5 meter all molded Airplane, Good or Bad, you decide, I did not use the top Mounted control horns on the wings, but went out the bottom . I Had Gear problems with the kit, some of the fault was mine, most of the Fault was design of the Locking Mechanism.
John Derstine, of EMM, recognized the issue, and went out of his way to resolve same, not only with me, but with the Manufacturer as well...
BOYS, Thats what I call Service !!
About the time I got the Tow Plane Started and warmed up, Tom Kallevang, Now LSF President, Arrived to assume the role of Tug Pilot...
as Johnny Tow'em vertical Berlin, had not yet arrived.
The wind is blowing outta the North 5-12 mph. We are flying on the Power Site at the NAC, Muncie; taking off Across the Main Runway.
With S.O.A.R. Tow and TK ( Tom Kallevang) on the upwind of the tow line and Me and my Ventus on the Down wind end the signal is given, and full throttle applied.
Now the Tow plane has just about 60 feed before being off the hard surface and into the grass, but the lift off was effortless, as you might expect, and the Ventus, without Gonezo ( the Pilot), was airborne in about 30 feet. Just a little up trim and I am good for the ride, when unexpectedly, the tow plane is tossed on it side, by a rolling burble, generated just north of the runway edge...
Kool Hand Kallevang, sucks up about 1/2 inch of his shorts and motors on, righting the airplane, and actually scale towing me up to about 2500 feet agl.
Ok Yea, I can raise the Retract now.....Off tow with a gentle turn to the left, TK throttles back, and brings the Tow Plane home.
The Ceiling for most of the Day had to be 4500 feet plus, with pockets off blue.
I / We got up to 4 flights in yesterday, none were less that 35 minutes, and there were time where none of us could see the Stabs on our planes, they were so high.
Tk and I took turns flying my Ventus.
Paul ,Rudy, and Peter (?), were all up at one time in Mondo Air, after Johnny Berlin showed up for Towing duty.
Many time the Call for Cross Country was heard... Again the winds were not that bad even at Altitude. I have no idea how high we got, I am sure that it was either me or Rudy with the smaller plane. No I did not have my vario installed, I sold it to a buddy who needed it more than I did.
I did some trimming and control reconfiguration on my Ventus, I gouged out about 2 Table spoons of lead shot, to take care of a Slight purposing issue. We are Cross Country ready for the up coming JR Aero Tow....yeee haaa !!
Johnny I can not do a Normal Tow, was up to his antics, towing small gliders Vertically, (Me and my 26 pound Ventus Near that), Inverted, rolls and such. Butch kept himself busy gouging the ground for a mole..
We could not attend today, too much work at home to do...I hope you do not mind too much, me sharing a little of a wonderful season opener , for me, with you all.
BTW, Johnny Has a NIB Yellow over Red Pazer, if you are interested, My Bank Account said no....8-(
If you were supposed to go and pussed out because of weather, and I can't Blame you, you missed a really good time !!
As soon As I can figure out how to do it I will Post some PIX on my site. Have a great day Thanks Paul Siegle and the Dayton Darts
What a hoot!!!!!
Jack & Karen
PS the Temp Hovered about 55 the whole time we were there !!
