Horizon, nor any other OEM, would recommend an antenna that is stated to 
operate (properly) at 72MHz. It's more a case of the OEM's sticking to the 
facts than speculating or handing out advice that is contrary. This (rightly) 
avoids being held responsible in the event the advice does not have the 
expected results!

The ability of an antenna with a center frequency of ~72MHz to operate 
successfully on 50MHz has more to do with the TX or RX front end. Those who are 
using 50MHz RX's will note that the original antenna lead is ~40in, similar to 
those operating at 72MHz.

It should work, but do the proverbeal range testing before and after the mod to 
confirm. If you see similar range with the whip as you do with the original 
lead, you should be fine.
