Woody guys can easily track their scores from the event scorekeeper's
posting and keep a separate score sheet for themselves without permission
from anyone.
I really like this idea. Woody guys and their planes are always welcome at
contests. I've certainly never seen any rules at the contests I attend that
would prohibit them. I've also never heard any sentiment from the people I
fly with that would indicate that they are unwelcome.
BTW ... to be an "all out competitor in the spirit of competition" does
not
require a bagged, molded or store bought sailplane. I think most of us
already know who the top pilots (most dedicated to winning) are and who
the
fodder are.
No arguments here either. I wonder if the woody guys know who the top woody
pilots are. Assuming they do, why do they still hold woody contests?
Probably the same reason that other contests are run. The fodder pilots
learn to fly (or to build and fly) better, top dog pilots get old, retire or
just have a bad day, you don't have to win first place to have a successful
contest, etc. There are lots of reasons to compete even if you don't expect
to win.
A proposal:
Let's all gather up our bagged and molded and store bought airplanes and
attend the next woody contest. We can track and post our scores separately
without permission.........Oh wait a minute, never mind :-)
All in good fun. I would personally be happy to see woody airplanes at the
soaring masters and thank Ray for his efforts to support those airplanes and
flyers.
