The round came from its existing investors, including August Capital, Canaan Partners, InterWest Partners, QuestMark Partners, and US Venture Partners. Xirrus said the funding will go towards sales growth and its product. Xirrus develops high performance wireless networking equipment, which uses multiple wireless access points and switching to support very dense and high performance Wi-Fi networks, particularly in areas like schools, campuses, shopping centers, and other public areas, which are not well supported by typical Wi-Fi access point equipment. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/index.php?action=showdeal&id=43568 Gamefly Signs Blake Griffin As Spokesperson ---- Los Angeles-based video game rental service GameFly hsa tapped Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin as its new spokesperson, the company said Tuesday. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. GameFly said that Griffin is an "avid gamer" who appeals to the firm's demographic of core gamers. As part of the move, GameFly said it is launching a sweepstakes and promotion for its 10th anniversary, centered around getting a chance to play NBA 2K13 with Griffin in Los Angeles. GameFly operates a video game rental-by-mail service. Quest Software Stockholders Give Nod To Dell Acquisition ---- The $2.4 billion acquisition of Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software has been approved by Quest's stockholders, the firm said Tuesday afternoon, after a meeting of the company's stockholders. The approval is one more step along a lengthy approval process for the acquisition, which was originally announced in July. Quest said the closing of the transaction is still subject to the satisfaction and waiver of remaining closing conditions. Dell acquired Quest Software after a bidding war with private equity firm Insight Venture Partners for the maker of IT management software. OpenX Names Idealab's McPherson As Chief Legal Officer ---- Los Angeles-based online advertising technology provider OpenX announced this morning that it has appointed Douglas McPherson, the former General Counsel of Idealab, as its new Chief Legal Officer. OpenX said that McPherson will oversee its worldwide legal affairs, including mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and intellectual property efforts. McPherson had been General Counsel and VP of Corporate Development at Idealab for more than ten years; he also has served at Chief Legal Officer at Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch and CitySearch, and also had served at Heller Ehrman LLP, among other positions. OpenX said that McPherson has joined the board of directors of Idealab as part of the move. ParkMe To Provide TomTom With Parking Info ---- ParkMe, the provider of parking information and mobile applications founded by Sam Friedman and Alex Israel, has inked a deal to provide its parking database information to navigation provider TomTom. TomTom announced the deal Tuesday, saying the information will be used to provide location information for parking garages and lots, as well as contact information in its map products. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. TomTom said the move wil provide it with data on over 16,000 parking facilities throughout the U.S., and will show up in TomTom's products as a point of interest (POI). ParkMe is venture backed by Fontinalis Partners and IDG Ventures. GameSalad Expands To Windows Store ---- Los Angeles-based GameSalad, which develops software which makes it easy to create iOS, Android and web games without programming, said Tuesday that it is now allowing its users to publish to the Windows Store. GameSalad said that its Mac and Windows Pro developers can now publish games to Windows 8 desktops, tablets, laptops, and more, including support for such things like Windows 8 Snap Pause, time-based trials, and more. GameSalad's game creation software allows users to develop games by dragging and dropping pre-built components, adding artwork, and connecting them all together with game logic; those games can be run across any iOS, Android, or web platform. Qualcomm QPrize Winner Gets New Funding ---- One of the companies recognized in Qualcomm's QPrize annual business plan competition has scored a series A funding, four years after being named a finalist in the Qualcomm effort. Singapore-based Capillary Technologies, a developer of mobile customer relationship management (CRM) tools, said it has raised $15.5M in a Series A venture financing round. The round was led by Norwest Venture Partners and Sequoia Capital, and also included Qualcomm Ventures, an existing investor in the company. Capillary was one of Qualcom's 2009 finalists for the QPrize; the firm is now based in Singapore, with offices in Palo Alto. The company says its customers include Pizza Hut, Puma, United Colors of Benetton, Mothercare, Robinson;s, Store21, Sunglass Hut and Nike. SwiftTest said it raised $7.25M in its Series B, led by Azure Capital Partners, and also included Kinetic Venture Partner, Benhamou Global Ventures, Miramar Venture Partners, Core Capital Partners and Columbus Nova. SwiftTest is based in Silicon Valley, in Santa Clara, and develops IT testing and quality assurance (SQA) tools, using software to simulate storage, networking, and applications for testing IT infrastructure. It's unclear when Miramar first invested in SwiftTest. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/index.php?action=showdeal&id=45466 YouMail Adds Push-to-Talk ---- Irvine-based YouMail, the developer of communications and advanced voicemail applications, has updated its iPhone app, saying yesterday that it has added push-to-talk capabilities, which allows users to leave voice messages to other YouMail users without having to dial a number. The feature--similar to such push-to-talk apps like Voxer and Zellow--lets users trade voice messages on the app, in addition to using it for providing advanced, visual features for voicemail, caller ID, customized greetings, and other features. YouMail said the update is now on the App Store. The firm did not say if or when it intends to add the feature to its Android version of its app. Boingo To Provide Wi-Fi Offload To Wireless Carriers ---- Santa Monica-based Boingo Wireless has inked a deal with a telecom organization to help provide its members with Wi-Fi offloading. According to the Competitive Carriers Association (CCA), it is in a strategic partnership with Boingo to offer up offload for its members, to help reduce demand and strain on their networks due to cellular data use. The two said that Boingo will white label Wi-Fi solutions to CCA carriers as part of the deal. Financial details of the link were not announced by either party. Boingo operates a nationwide network of Wi-Fi hotspots. The CCA said the deal will help its members as they look to manage capacity constraints and data roaming costs; carriers apparently are facing capacity issues due to the uptick in usage of smartphones, and have been encouraging the use of Wi-Fi as a way to keep their networks from being overwhelmed by that data traffic. SmartDrive Scores Venture Debt Financing ---- San Diego-based SmartDrive Systems, the developer of video-based, driver safety systems, has scored a venture debt financing, according to finance firm Wellington Financial. Size and terms of that debt financing were not announced. Wellington Financial said the debt will go towards growth capital, and came in conjunction with the recent, $47M round of equity funding for SmartDrive. SmartDrive is venture backed by Oak Investment Partners, New Enterprise Associates, and Stanford University, and is headed by Steve Mitgang. Wellington Financial has an office in Santa Monica. Deal Current Gets Backing From Private Equity Firm ---- DealCurrent, a developer of software used for managing local coupons and daily deals offers, has scored private equity funding from a private equity firm. Canal Partners, an Arizona private equity company, is funding Deal Current, to help the company accelerate growth, boost sales and marketing, and for developing its technology. Todd Belfer of Canal Partners joins Deal Current's board as part of the funding. Financial details of the funding were not announced.
