create toys which will link to smart phones or tablet devices.
Software on those phones and tablets will recognize those toys, and

award with music publication and brand Billboard. According to the
two, they have launched the fifth annual Eventful Fans' Choice Award,
which will allow music fans and concert goers to vote for their
favorite concert tour, via Eventful's platform. The companies said
that nominees for the Eventful 2012 Fans' Choice Award will come ia a

----
Is Santa Monica-based Mahalo, the startup headed by Jason Calacanis,
just about to reveal a new pivot and new corporate name? According to
a story from TechCrunch this morning, yes. The story says that many
signs point to a rebranding of Mahalo.com, the online information and
advice site started by Calacanis originally as a "human powered search
engine" is now pivoting to create a new "knowledge community, focused
on creating high-quality videos, apps, iBooks and written
courses"--called Inside.com. Inside.com currently only includes a
simple web signup form which adds you to an email list from Calacnisd.

FreedomPop Launches Free Wireless Internet Service
----
Los Angeles-based FreedomPop, a new startup backed by Mangrove
Capital, DCM, and Atomico, said this morning that it has launched a

wireless network. The firm said it will offer up up to 500MB of data
each month for free, via both a hotspot device and a USB stick for
laptops and PCs. The company also said it will be shipping iPhone and
iPod sleeves which connect into its network. FreedomPop is also
offering up premium subscription plans--starting at $17.99 a

percent below the rates of major carriers.

had been filed by Universal against Logitech. Financial terms and
details of the settlement were not announced. The lawsuit had been
filed by Universal Electronics in July of 2011, claiming infringement

stemmed from a falling out over patent licensing agreement terms
between the two companies.

Beachmint Trims Staff
----
Los Angeles-based BeachMint, the online e-commerce and celebrity
startup, has quietly let go of some staff Friday, in what an insider
called a "slight trim" of the firm's employee base. News of the
layoffs first hit began circulating right before noon. BeachMint has
not commented on the moves, which is believed to have hit around a
dozen employees. BeachMint operates a number of celebrity driven
e-commerce sites, which combine selling products--often on
subscription--with celebrity endorsement.

Quest Software Now Part Of Dell
----
Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software is now officially part of Dell, Dell
said Friday, after the two firms completed their $2.4 billion
acquisition deal. The acquisition of Quest is a significant part of
bolstering Dell's software ambitions, with Dell saying that the
acquisition will add 100,000 customers, 5,000 channel partners, 1,500
software sales and marketing experts, and 1,300 software developers to
the Dell Software Group. Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software develops a
wide portfolio of IT management software tools. Dell had announced the
acquisition back in July. Dell has not said how the acquisition will
affect Quest's extensive Orange County employee base, but Dell has
been ramping its software efforts as it diversifies away from an
increasingly commodity, and somewhat stagnant, personal computer
market.
