Catching Up With Jeffrey Stibel of D&B Credibility
----
Jeffrey Stibel has been quietly building a technology powerhouse in
Malibu, leveraging the D&B brand at D&B Credibility Corp.
(www.dandb.com) and applying what he's learned over the years running
Internet companies to the venerable brand. The firm is backed by more
than $100M in funding from private equity firm Great Hill Partners.
Stibel is also very active in supporting the Los Angeles startup
ecosystem as an angel investor. We thought we'd catch up with Stibel
to hear how the firm has been going plus learn about his angel
investing efforts.

Ingram Micro Completes BrightPoint Buy
----
Santa Ana-based Ingram Micro said Monday that it has acquired
BrightPoint, a distributor of products for the wireless market. Ingram
said it is paying $9.00 per share in cash for BrightPoint. The deal is
worth approximately $840M. The deal had originally been announced in
July. Ingram Micro said the combined revenues of the two firms is now
more than $41 billion.

Patagonia Invests In AeonClad Coatings
----
Ventura, California-based outdoor clothing manufacturer Patagonia said
Monday that it has made an investment in Teas-based AeonClad Coatings,
a developer of water-repellent coatings and other specialty coatings
technology. Financial details of the investment were not disclosed,
however, Patagonia said it now has a 15 percent equity stake in
AeonClad Coatings. Patagonia is using AeonClad's technology as part of
a water-repellent down filling being used in its products. AeonClad's
technology provides nano-coatings technology. As part of the deal, the
companies aid they have established a new R&D laboratory in Austin,
Texas.

Nimble Names VP Engineering
----
Los Angeles-based Nimble, the developer of cloud-based, customer
relationship management (CRM) and contact management tools, has hired
a new VP of Engineering, the company said today. Nimble said it has
hired Brandon Vallade, former Vice President of Technology at Fox
Digital Media to the position. Nimble said that Vallade had headed up
the 40-plus digital media team building websites and mobile apps for
FOXSports.com, FOX.com, AmericanIdol.com and other Fox Network Group
digital properties. Nimble's online tool helps users track their
personal contacts and interactions across email, real life, and social
sites.

Cinedigm Deploys In The Caribbean
----
Los Angeles-based Cinedigm, a developer of digital cinema products,
said today that it has deployed its products in the Caribbean. The
firm said the deal is its first large scale deployment outside the
continental US and Canada. Cinedigm said that Caribbean Cinemas will
deploy up to 290 screens using its technology. No financial details of
the win were announced. Cinedigm provides software, hardware, and
services around digital distribution of movies.

Esri Buys Geoloqi
----
Redlands-based Esri, the developer of geographical information systems
(GIS) software, has acquired startup Geoloqi, which developed a
service for geocoding information. Financial terms of the buy were not
disclosed. Geoloqi was based in Portland. Esri was founded by Jack and
Laura Dangermond, and has quietly become a giant in the geographical
information systems (GIS) field, and one of the largest companies in
the Inland Empire; the firm now has more than 2,900 employees.  Esri
has actually been very active in acquiring startups and other
companies in the last year or two; the firm has acquired Maptel,
SpotOn Systems, and Procedural over the last couple of years.

AeroVironment Debuts New Home Electric Vehicle Chargers
----
Monrovia, California-based AeroVironment said Monday that it has
rolled out a new home electric vehicle charging station product, the
EVSE-RS Plug-In. The developer of EV charging stations (and unmanned
aircraft) said its new device plugs into a dedicated, 240 volt outlet,
letting users plug in their station anywhere without requiring
hard-wiring of the charging station to a home. AeroVironment said it
developed the new device to make it easier for plug-in-hybrid nad
battery electric vehicle owners to take their charging stations to
their relatives' homes, or vacation homes with 240V outlets. Most
electric vehicle chargers require installation by a electrician and a
dedicated circuit for the charging station. AeroVironment said it is
selling the unit through Amazon.com, and also directly.

Rustic Canyon Re-Ups On UrbanSitter
----
An online marketplace for babysitters, UrbanSitter has just scored new
funding Los Angeles-based venture investor Rustic Canyon Partners, as
part of a Series A funding, UrbanSitter said this morning. UrbanSitter
said it raised $6M in a Series A round, which was led by Canaan
Partners, and also included existing investors First Round Capital,
Menlo Ventures, Rustic Canyon Partners, and angels. UrbanSitter
operates an online site which connects babysitters with parents,
letting babysitters list their experience and rates and helps parents
connect with and vet those babysitters for jobs.

Metacloud Debuts OpenStack Private Cloud Services
----
Pasadena-based MetaCloud, which provides fully managed,
OpenStack-based cloud infrastructure for operating private clouds,
launched Monday at the OpenStack Summit, with the backing of Storm
Ventures. MetaCloud is headed by Steve Curry, the former head of
Yahoo's global storage operations. MetaCloud's co-founders also
include Sean Lynch, former Sr. Vice President of Technology Operations
at Ticketmaster Entertainment. MetaCloud's fully managed services
helps companies deploy their own, OpenStack cloud computing systems.
OpenStack is an emerging standard which lets developers create cloud
computing applications which are portable across different Internte
service providers, private clouds, and more. OpenStack is based on the
cloud computing infrastructure at Rackspace, and is very similar to
competing offerings from Amazon Web Services. Details on the funding
by Storm Ventures was not announced.

DreamHost Launches OpenStack Cloud
----
Los Angeles-based web hosting provider DreamHost has expanded into the
cloud computing services market, saying Monday morning that it has
launched a new OpenStack-based cloud computing platform called
DreamCompute. OpenStack is an open-source ste of infrastructure
components which allows any ISP or hosting firm to provide a standard
set of cloud computing services, along the lines of Amazon's Web
Services; those components were originally designed as part of the
cloud computing service run by Rackspace. DreamHost said that
DreamCompute will provide compute instances from 1GB to 64GB, and also
will use the open source, distributed storage software from its
spinoff, Ceph. Pricing on its new cloud based service was not
disclosed.

Lettuce Gets $2.1M In Seed Round
----
Lettuce, a developer of software to help manage order capture,
inventory, and accounting for online businesses, has raised $2.1M in a
seed funding round. Funding for the Santa Monica company came from
Crosscut Ventures, 500 Startups, Launchpad LA, Baroda Ventures,
Zelkova Ventures, and Double M Capital. Lettuce is led by Raad Mobrem.
