Los Angeles-based TopFloor revealed today that it has raised $6M in a funding round, from Polaris Venture Partners, Google Ventures, Crosslink Capital, and Rustic Canyon Partners. The firm is building a celebrity influencer based fashion and e-commerce site, geared around flash-sales of products. Brian Lee of ShoeDazzle is also involved in the new venture. Mindspeed said that Genexis, which develops home gateways for the fiber-to-the-home market, has selected its Comcerto communications processors for its products. Expected shipment volumes and timing were not announced by Mindspeed. Everbridge Opens Office In The UK ---- Los Angeles-based Everbridge, the provider of mass notification technology and communications products, said today that it has expanded internationally and opened up a new UK office. The firm said the new office will serve the European, Middle Eastern and African (EMEA) region for the company. Everbridge develops products use for emergency notifications and other similar mass notification applications. Gores Group Buys Therakos ---- Los Angeles based private equity firm The Gores Group is acquiring a medical device firm, Therakos, from Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, the company said this morning. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Therakos is a New Jersey developer of extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) immune modulation therapy products. The Gores Group said that Therakos develops systems used for treating T-Cell lymphomas and other immune-based diseases. Fate Therapeutics Names New CEO ---- San Diego-based Fate Therapeutics announced this morning that it has named Christian Weyer, M.D., M.A.S., as its new President and CEO. Weyer joins the firm from Amylin Pharmaceuticals. Weyer had been serving as SVP Research and Development at Amylin when it was acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb. Weyer takes oer for William H. Rastetter, who was serving as interim CEO; Rastetter is a partner at Venrock, and continues as Chairman of the company's board. Fate Therapeutics is working on stem cell therapy products. Emulex Takes Helm At FCIA ---- Costa Mesa-based storage area networking hardware maker Emulex said Friday that Mark Jones, Director of Technical Marketing at the company, has become President of the Fibre Channel Industry Association, an industry group promoting Fibre Channel products. ShopWiki Launches Barcode Scanning, Price Comparison App ---- ShopWiki, which operates an Internet shopping search engine, said last week that it has released a new, barcode scanning app for iOS. The site--which is owned by Los Angeles-based Oversee.net--said the barcode app lets users check online prices while shopping at brick and mortar retail stores. The app allows users to scan the UPC for a product, and then instantly see competitive pricing from online retailers.
