According to Demand, it is launching the new brand on AZCentral.com, the online site for the Arizona Republic. Financial details of the win were not disclosed. Demand Media said the channel is the fourth time it has worked with Gannett, and is the third collaboration it has created with AZCentral.com. Demand Media said it will have more than 25 content channels live by the end of the calendar year, where it will provide everything form automotive advice to investment tips to users. WD Certifies With Windows To Go ---- Irvine-based hard drive maker WD, said today that one of its portable hard drives, its My Passport Enterprise, has been certified with Microsoft's Windows To Go program. The program allows corporate customers to provide a full, bootable Windows 8 workspace on a bootable USB drive. The company said the new feature from Microsoft lets users easily carry, boot, and run their own, personal version of Windows 8 on any personal PC. The hard drive is specifically designed to work with Microsoft's new feature, and supports 500GB of storage space. The firm said the new product will be available on October 26th. Local Corporation Sells Rovion ---- Irvine-based Local Corporation, which provides online local advertising for small businesses, said Friday that it has sold off its Rovion unit to Gannett Co., Inc.. The deal was worth $3.9M in cash. Local Corp. said the deal would enhance it balance sheet and cash flow. Rovion becomes part of Gannett's PointRoll unit. Rovion was a provider of mobile advertising, and had been acquired by Local Corporation in April of 2011 for $2.3M. Kurion Opens Facility In Washington ---- Irvine-based nuclear waste treatment developer Kurion said today that it has opened up a new facility in Richland, Washington. The firm said its new Modular Vitrification System (MVS) test facility will be used to mature and commercially demonstrate its technology, which is being used for nuclear waste cleanup. Kurion is developing nuclear waste treatment technology; vitrification is one of those technologies, which uses glass to encase and immobilize nuclear waste. SMC Networks Names Latin American Head ---- Irvine-based SMC, the developer of cable gateway and other networking equipment, said today that it has named Gary J. Brust as General Manager of Latin America. Brust has previously served at companies such as Cisco, Scientific-Atlanta, Terayon and ADC Telecommunications. The company said Brust has previously help lead Latin American sales for those other companies, and will help lead the firm during a period of major growth in Latin America. AnyMeeting Integrates With Zimbra ---- Huntington Beach-based AnyMeeting, the provider of free web conferencing and online meeting software, said last week that it has integrated its products with VMware's Zimbra Collaboration Software. AnyMeeting said its new AnyMeeting Zimlet product allows Zimbra users to schedule, launch, and manage AnyMeeting online meetings from within Zimbra. Zimbra is an email and collaboration software product which acquired by VMware in 2010. AnyMeeting is venture backed by the Pasadena Angels and Tech Coast Angels. Quest Software Founders Next Move? Energy Independence ---- Vinny Smith, the co-founder, chairman, and former CEO of Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software, has donated $1M in an effort to spur energy independence in the U.S., Smith said last week. Smith said he is making a $1M donation to the Fuel Freedom Foundation, which says it is a non-partisan nonprofit dedicated to "breaking America's oil addiction". The group says it is striving to remove barriers to competition from such fuels as natural gas, methanol, ethanol and electricity. The group was co-founded by fellow Quest Software co-founder Eyal Aronoff. Quest was recently sold to Dell in a $2.4 billion deal. Hulu Investor Gets Big Gain As It Sells Stake Back To Hulu ---- Private equity firm Providence Equity Partners has sold its 10 percent stake in Hulu, the firm said Friday morning, getting a nice return on its investment in the online video streaming site. Providence Equity Partners had invested $100M in Hulu in 2007, and reportedly sold back its stake for $200M to the company this week. In a statement, Hulu CEO Jason Kilar called Providence an "ideal partner" over the past five years.
