The round will go towards supporting its lead drug candidate. The round was led by Orbimed Advisors, and also included Aisling Capital, Apposite Healthcare, Roche Ventures, GrowthWorks, MedImmune Ventures, Forward Ventures, GIMV, and Radius Ventures. David Bonita of OrbiMed joins the company's board as part of the funding. Ambit's lead candidate is aimed at treating acute myeloid leukemia. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/index.php?action=showdeal&id=46497 DTS Powers Acer Smartphones ---- Calabasas-based DTS, the developer and provider of audio processing technology, reported today that its technology has been integrated into new smartphones from Acer. The firm said its DTS Sound technology is being used in Acer's new E350 and Z110 smartphones. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. NanoH2O Sets COO ---- El Segundo-based NanoH2O, the developer and manufacturer of reverse osmosis membranes for seawater desalination, has appointed Doug Barnes as the firm's Chief Operating Officer. Barnes joins the company from Planar, a developer of digital displays, where he had spent 25 years running its manufacturing operations. NanoH2O said the move will help it build the necessary infrastructure to support its expansion efforts. NanoH2O is commercializing technology developed at UCLA for reverse osmosis. The company is backed by BASF Venture Capital GmbH, CalPERS Clean Energy & Technology Fund, Keytone Ventures, Khosla Ventures, Oak Investment Partners, PCG Clean Energy & Technology Fund, Rusheen Capital Partners, and Total Energy Ventures International. The company is headed by technology veteran Jeff Green (Stamps.com, Archive). Payoff.com Adds Resnick To Board ---- Payoff.com, the online service which is using gamification to help consumers pay off credit cards and save for goals, said Monday that Pandemic Studios co-founder Josh Resnick has joined the company's board of directors. The Los Angeles company, which is run by Scott Saunders, said that Resnick is one of the company's seed investors. Resnick co-founded and was President of Pandemic Studios, which was sold to Electronic ARts for $860M. He also previously served at Activision. Payoff's online service provides rewards and encourages users to meet financial goals. Demand Media Revenues, Profits Up ---- Demand Media, the online media publishing firm headed by Richard Rosenblatt, reported record revenues and profitability, the firm said Monday afternoon, as its released its third quarter results. The firm's total revenues grew to $98.1M, up 20 percent from Q3 of 2011 when it reported revenues of $81.5M. The firm said it saw a growth of 33% in page views for its owned and operates site, over the similar quarter last year, as well as a 12% growth in domains. Demand Media was boosted by its video efforts and its partnership with YouTube, among other efforts. Demand Media also said it had not been impacted by the scandal around Lance Armstrong; Demand Media operates Livestrong.com in a partnership with the Livestrong Foundation. THQ Seeks Buyer As Sales Slip ---- Agoura Hills-based videogame maker THQ is looking for a buyer, after reporting less-than-stellar results on Monday afternoon. THQ said it has hired an investment banker to help it consider "strategic alternatives", in hopes of raising additional capital to bring a number of titles to market. The firm said it hired Centerview Partners to help evaluate "strategic and financing alternatives". The announcement came as the firm announced net sales of $107.4M for the three months ended September 30, 2012, down significantly from the similar quarter last year, when it had $146.0M in revenues. The firm also reported a net loss of $21.0M. In a release, THQ Chairman and CEO acknowledged that the game maker "faces a number of opportunities and challenges" due to needing to operate with limited capital resources. RingRevenue Raises $3.25M ---- Santa Barbara-based RingRevenue has raised $3.25M in a Series B-2 funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the firm Monday. The company--which provides call tracking technology for the affiliate marketing industry--said in the filing that the funds would be used for working capital. RingRevenue is headed by Jason Spievak. Investors in the round have not yet been announced, however, the firm has raised funding in the past from Great Pacific Capital, GRP Partners, and Rincon Venture Partners. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/index.php?action=showdeal&id=46444 JuntoBox Partners With IndieGoGo On Film Crowdfunding ---- Juntobox Films, the online startup social community focused on independent filmmakers, and which is chaired by director and actor Forest Whitaker, said MOnday that it has partnered with online crowdfunding site indigogo, to help filmmakers get their projects funded. The two said that JuntoBox Films will create a branded "Partner Page" on Indiegogo.com, which will give "thousands" of films on IndieGogo.com access to the services provided by JuntoBox. Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed. JuntoBox allows people to vote on different film projects, with the top films getting a chance to be produced by JuntoBox. Genesis Digital Imaging Acquired By Carestream ---- Los Angeles-based Genesis Digital Imaging, a developer of imaging software for the diagnostic imaging systems market, has been acquired by CareStream, a manufacturer of healthcare imaging, X-ray systems, and other related products. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Genesis distributed Carestream's computed radiography (CR) systems. Carestream is based in New York. SkuLoop Acquired By Revionics ---- SkuLoop, the online social promotion service headed by Michelle Cranes and which was backed by Tomorrow Ventures, Founder Collective, SK telecom, and Saban Capital Group, has been acquired by Revionics , a provider of merchandising software. According to Revionics, the firm acquired the SkuLoop business and assets from GIIV, Inc., the parent firm of SkuLoop. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. SkuLoop's clients included PacSun, Toyota, Paul Frank, 1-800 Flowers, and others, who used the firm's software to drive flash and daily deals offers. Hulu Inks Deal With CBS ---- Hulu announced Monday that it has inked a multi-year license deal with CBS, to add library content from the network to Hulu Plus. According to Hulu, CBS content will start appearing on Hulu Plus in January 2013, and will include more than 2,600 episodes of shows such as "Medium", "Numb3rs" and "CSI: Miami" -- as well as older titles like "Star Trek", "I Love Lucy", and "The Twilight Zone". The deal also includes rotation of some of those titles through the free Hulu.com service. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, and the deal does not include non-library, current CBS episodes. mSIGNIA Looks To Secure Mobile Devices ---- mSIGNIA, a developer of mobile security tools, has quietly been funded by the Tech Coast Angels and Gold Hill Capital, it was revealed by the TCA last week. mSIGNIA, which is based in Irvine, apparently is looking to help manage the identity of online users, and is targeting online service providers with mobile applications. The company's founders are Paul Miller, who was previously COO of SMobile Sytsems (acquired by Juniper), and also served at Symantec, Gemalto, GTE Cybertrust, Rainbow Technologies and Printronix, and George Tuvell, co-founder of SMobile Systems, FedCal, and others.
