Access Scientific Acquired By Private Equity Firm
----
San Diego-based Access Scientific Inc. (ASI) said this morning that it
has been acquired by private equity firm Endeavor Capital. Financial
terms of the buy were not disclosed. ASI is a developer of devices
used for over-wire insertion of sheaths and catheters, used in the
healthcare industry. The firm's major product is the POWERWAND, a
power-injectable midline IV catheter.

Targus Buys Sena Cases
----
Anaheim-based Targus recently announced that it has acquired fellow
Orange County laptop case maker Sena Cases. Financial terms of the
deal were not disclosed. Sena Cases becomes a wholly owned subsidiary
of Targus. SEna is a maker of leather, luxury laptop, smartphone, and
tablet cases. Targus was advised by Sikich Investment Banking in the
deal. The buy had been announced on October 30th. Sena Cases was based
in Irvine.

EnGenius Ships New Wireless Access Point
----
Costa Mesa-based EnGenius Technologies has launched a new, dual-band
wireless access point, the firm announced today. Engenius said its new
product, the EAP600 High-Power Dual-Band N Indoor AP/WDS, provides
dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHZ Wireless-N access, and is aimed at providing
coverage to large and multi-story buildings. The new products has a
MSRP of $179. EnGenius is a subsidiary of Taiwanese RF semiconductor
firm Senao Networks.

DTS Powers New Panasonic Tablet
----
Calabasas-based DTS reported this morning that its SRS TruMedia HD
audio processing technology has been adopted into a new, Android
tablet from Panasonic. Financial impact of the win was not announced.
The firm said its SRS TruMedia HD technology is being used as part of
Panasonic's new ELUGA Live Android tablet. The DTS technology is there
to provide surround-sound and provide a consistent listening volume
across content.

Broadcom Ships New Quad 10GBASE-T PHY
----
Irvine-based semiconductor manufacturer Broadcom has shipped a new,
Quad 10GBASE-T PHY, the company announced this morning. The firm said
the transceiver is the second generation of its 10GBASE-T PHYs, and
offers up 50 percent lower power in what it says is the industry's
smallest footprint. The new chip is targeted for use in Ethernet
switches. The company said the BCM84848 PHY is now sampling, with
production volumes in the first quarter of 2013.

Kurion Targets Hanford Cleanup Site
----
Irvine-based Kurion, the developer of nuclear waste remediation
technology, is eyeing a new challenge: cleaning up the notorious
Hanford nuclear weapons site, according to a report Tuesday from the
Wall Street Journal.mKurion, which saw its first deployment of its
technology at the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan immediately after
the Japanese tsunami, apparently is hoping to seal a deal to help
clean up the mess at Hanford. (More...)

BUMP Network Raises $2.3M
----
San Diego-based BUMP Network, a developer of online software used by
membership programs to manage registrations and partnership programs,
has raised $2.3M in a funding round, the firm said today. The funding
round came from Eric Schmidt via TomorrowVentures, ZIG Capital, Chris
Burch via JCB Investments, Moore Venture Partners, La Jolla Holding
Co., along with other angels. The firm said the Series B2 financing
round brings its total raised to $4.5M. BUMP Network said its
customers include large shopping malls and retailers, conference
companies, medical services providers, sports companies, and others.
The firm is led by Mitch Thrower. BUMP Network looks to be the latest
incarnation of BUMP.com, which had originally focused on letting
people send messages to drivers on the road based on their license
plate.

Dreamhost Joins Linux Foundation
----
Los Angeles-based cloud and hosting provider Dreamhost has joined the
Linux Foundation, the group which supports the Linux operating system,
the Foundation said Monday. Dreamhost was one of a number of companies
to join the nonprofit, which helps to support the growth of Linux.
Deramhost offers up shared hosting, dedicated server hosting, cloud
computing, cloud storage, domain name registration, and other
services.

3D Robotics Gets $5M
----
San Diego-based 3D Robotics, the developer and supplier of parts and
technology for personal unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), has raised
$5M in funding, from True Ventures and O'Reilly AlphaTech ventures.
The firm said Jon Callaghan of True and Bryce Roberts at O'Reilly
AlphaTech Ventures have joined the company's board. Chris Anderson,
the editor of Wired, recently stepped down from Wired to join the
startup full time. The company said it will be hiring more hardware
and software engineers in San Diego because of the funding, and will
also open up a new office in the Bay Area.
