We have a browser extension that takes the legwork out of finding the best coupon codes (More...) http://bit.ly/Tyzvho --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Newport Media Gets $10M In Venture Debt ---- Lake Forest-based Newport Media, a developer of wireless semiconductors for the broadcast media industry, has received $10M in a venture loan, according to the firms providing the financing. The loan came from Horizon Technology Finance Corporation and Bridge Bank. The two said that $7M of the loan came from Horizon, with the other $3M from Bridge Bank. Terms of the loans were not announced. The funding will go towards supporting growth at Newport Media. Newport Media is headed by Mony Abdelgany. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/?action=showco&id=1908 Shopatron Partners With eCommerce Firm ---- San Luis Obispo-based Shopatron said today that it has linked with e-commerce firm Intershop as a partner. The two did not announce details of the partnership, but said the link would give Intershop clients with access to Shopatron's advanced distributed order management capabilities. Shopatron's e-commerce technology allows brands and manufacturers to take orders online, with fulfillment through their normal channel and local retailers. Intershop's clients include HP, BMW, Bosch, Otto, Deutsche Telekom, and Mexx. Intershop is based in Germany. Evolve Media Sells SheKnows.com ---- Los Angeles-based Evolve Media Corp. (More...) KYTHERA Biopharmaceuticals Unlocks Shares for CEO Donation ---- In an unusual move, Los Angeles-based KYTHERA Biopharmaceuticals said it has released shares of ts stock ahead of lock-up restrictions for the CEO--for a charitable donation. KYTHERA, which had its IPO in October, is still well within the usual sixth month lockup period for employees. The firm said that J.P. Morgan Securities LLC and Goldman, Sachs & Co. are releaing 7,563 shares of the company's common stock held by CEO KEith Leonard, to allow a charitable donation to a not-for-profit entity. Names of that nonprofit was not announced. SoCal's Instagram Startups Duck Impact, As Users Rebel ---- It looks like all of the flap over Instagram's change in its terms of service--which some had interpreted as giving Instagram the right to sell users' photos--has missed impacting a number of Southern California's startups. (More...) http://bit.ly/ZhfBO3 Fruition Gets $12M For ServiceNow Implementation Services ---- A company whose primary business is implementing ServiceNow for clients, Fruition Partners, said it has raised $12.0M in funding, in an interesting indication of the growing ecosystem around San Diego-based ServiceNow. Fruition--based in Chicago--said the Series A funding for the firm was led by Trident Capital, and specifically comes due to "rapid expansion and market demand" for ServiceNow's product. Fruition said it is the "premier implementation partner" for ServiceNow, whose software is used by companies to automate their enterprise IT operations. Fruition Partners said its clients include companies such as Coca-Cola, General Electric (GE), Delphi, Fox, Target, Tiffany & Company, Viacom and Yale University. The former team behind TweetPhoto--who sold their firm to Lockerz 18 months ago--is looking to solve that problem, through a new startup called APPMOB. The San Diego company just launched beta invitations for the company, which its co-founders billed the "pickaxes, shovels, and sluice boxes" for mobile developers. The company said it is hoping to launch in spring with a solution that helps developers engage, retain, and grow their user base. The firm has yet to detail their full suite of tools. APPMOB was founded by Sean Callahan and Rodney Rumford. Music Mastermind Taps Muve Music, Napster Vet As CTO ---- Music Mastermind, which develops software which combines music creation, social gaming, celebrity musicians, and others in its games, said Tuesday morning that it has tapped a veteran of Muve Music and Napster as its new CTO. The company said James Mitchell has been named Chief Technology Officer, joining from Muve Music, where he was Vice President of Technology and Engineering. Mitchell also has served at CTO of Napster. Music Mastermind said Mitchell will oversee development and cross-platform expansion of its product. The company is backed by such investors as Intel Capital and Liberty Global, and its founders include former Chairman/CEO of Virgin Records Matt Serletic and former Managing Director and Global Head of Emerging Markets Corporate Bond Trading at JP Morgan Bo Bazylevsky. SocialVibe Ties with Placecast for Geofencing ---- SocialVibe, the online advertising provider provided engagement advertising technology to brands, said yesterday that it has tapped Placecast for geofencing technology. Geofencing is the use of a consumer's location to target and tune specific advertisements and offers. Business details of the link between Placecast and SocialVibe were not announced.
