The filing indicates the capital came from Stone Point Capital, LLC. Details on the funding have not yet been announced by the company, which just announced the hire of the former CFO of SuccessFactors. (More...) http://bit.ly/TIBIZh Beachfront Media Hits Three Billion Video Views ---- Burbank-based Beachfront Media, the developer of video distribution tools, applications, and other infrastructure--and operator of video discovery site MeFeedia.com--said this week that it has racked up 3 billion video views across its properties, resulting in 1 billion ad impressions for its partners. The firm said those numbers are far above the 450 million video views and 263 million ad impressions it had in 2011. Beachfront said the increase in views came both through the addition of new content from MovieClips and Vevo, its new iPhone, iPad, and Android support, as well a shift in focus to social video discovery. Beachfront Media is headed by Frank Sinton. ACTIVE Network Powers Run Ireland ---- San Diego-based ACTIVE Network, the provider of cloud-based sports registration and other related services, reported a win today with Run Ireland, a website for running events in Ireland. Active said that it is the official technology partner for Run Island, and will handle online registration for events listed on Run Ireland. The two said that Run Ireland is the largest website for running events in Ireland. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Ceres Claims Milestone ---- Thousand Oaks-based biotech seed developer Ceres said today that it has hit a milestone in its field evaluations, showing that its technology has been demonstrated to provide double-digit percentage increases in yield under drought conditions. The firm--which develops seeds specifically aimed at optimizing yield for both energy and food crops--said its field trials conducted in China show that its drought tolerance genes provide "significant improvements" in yield production in rice. The firm said it believes the genes it is developing can help provide 100 percent grain and biomass yields under water deficits of up to 30 percent. The firm did not say when or if it expects that technology to be introduced into commercial production. Auction.com Snags CFO From SuccessFactors ---- Auction.com, the online real estate marketplace based in Irvine, said this morning that it has appointed Bruce Felt, the former CFO of SuccessFactors, as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Felt was CFO of SuccessFactors when it was acquired by SAP. According to Auction.com, Felt led SuccessFactors through its IPO, six acquisitions,and its recent $3.4 billion acquisition by SAP. He also has served at LANDesk Software, Integral Development Corp., FullTime Software, Renaissance Software, and Deloitte & Touche. Felt is also on the board of YouSendIt. Nevolution Links With ASUS ---- Los Angeles-based Nevolution, which has been developing software to help brands run their own, PC-based app stores, reported a win MOnday with ASUS. According to Nevolution, it will power the ASUS Vibe Fun Center, a digital marketplace which will be available on ASUS desktops and laptops. Nevolution said it will oversee merchant processing for digital products within the market place. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Nevolution is headed by Matthew Smith. The firm said the partnership brings more than 1,000 premium games, software, and apps to the ASUS @vibe content platform. Biotech Startup Licenses Technology From UCSD, Raises $18M ---- A new, biotech startup focused on delivery of nucleic acid therapeutics, Solstice Biologics, said last week that it has licensed technology developed at UC San Diego, and received $18M in a Series A funding. Solstice, which is based in San Francisco, said the technology was licensed from the University of California, San Diego, and is based on research from Professor Steven Dowdy , Ph.D., and his colleagues at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Pipewave, which was founded by Paul Boruta and Jonathan Tushman, provided online video creative and media optimization platform for marketers, agencies, and publishers. ZEFR is the online content distribution startup headed by Zach James and Richard Raddon; the company was formerly known as MovieClips.com, but has recently been expanding its efforts into other areas. Demand Media Buys Name.com ---- Santa Monica-based Demand Media announced Monday morning that it has acquired domain registrar Name.com. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Demand Media said that Name.com will help the firm as it prepares for the released of new top level domains (TLDs) this year. Name.com was based in Denver.
