Esri Ties With Geofeedia
----
Redland-based geographical information systems and mapping software
developer Esri has tied with social media and location analytics firm
Geofeedia, the two announced today. According to the two, the deal
will help public safety professionals monitor, analyze, and visualize
live emergency data in real time. Financial details of the link were
not disclosed. Geofeedia's service pulls in social data from such
sites as Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, YouTube, and elsewhere, and
overlays them in the context of a visual map. Esri said the link will
allow the "mash up" of that social data with other information such as
public safety assets, city infrastructure, utility networks, hazardous
materials, demographic data, and more.

Mindspeed Slashes Outlook
----
Newport Beach-based semiconductor maker Mindspeed Technologies
announced this morning that it has revised its second quarter 2013
outlook. The publicly held firm said it now expects total net product
revenue to be approximately $35.1 to $35.5M, down from an earlier
estimate of $38.4M. Mindspeed blamed the steep revenue shortfall on
slower-than-expected deployment of 3G small cell base stations.

Obagi, Valeant Raise Price As Bidding War Breaks Out
----
Long Beach-based aesthetic medicine developer Obagi Medical Products,
and would-be acquirer Valeant Pharmaceuticals, which is based in Aliso
Viejo, said this morning that Valeant has raised its offer to acquire
Obagi to $24.00 per share in cash. The move comes a day after Obagi
said it received an unsolicited bid of $22.00 per share in cash from
Merz Pharma from the company. Obagi said its board of directors has
unanimously approved the amended transaction. The two had earlier
reached a deal for Valeant to pay $19.75 per share in cash for the
company.

YouMail, the enhanced voicemail and voicemail application developer,
is looking to purge out a backlog of inactive users, saying Tuesday
that it has revised its terms of service to make it easier for the

DailyLook Uncovers $2.5M For Fast Fashion

Are you a fashion startup? It looks like Los Angeles has become the
hotbed of new fashion and e-commerce startups, with the latest being
DailyLook, which disclosed Tuesday that it has raised $2.5M in a
funding round, from GRP Partners, RRE Ventures, SV Angel, Novel TMT
Ventures, Matt Coffin, Thomas Mclnerney, and Rachel Zoe. The startup
focuses on "looks", letting consumers find a complete collection of
clothing--blazers, dresses, jackets, lingerie, shorts, shoes, bags,
purses, belts, and more--which all complement a specific "look" that a
consumer might want to adopt. The startup is headed by Brian Ree.

TakeLessons Sees Jump In Music Lesson Interest

Need to find a ukulele or blues harmonica teacher? San Diego-based
TakeLessons, the online marketplace for music lessons, said that it is
seeing a jump in interest in the firm's marketplace for online music
lessons. The startup--which is backed by Triangle Peak Partners,
Siemer Ventures, Crosslink Capital, and SoftTech VC--said it has seen
a 124 percent increase in the number of people who are taking music

Obagi Gets Competing Buyout Offer
----
Long Beach-based aesthetic medicine firm Obagi Medical Products--which
just agreed to a $360M buyout offer from Valeant Pharmaceuticals, said
it has just received a competing, unsolicited buyout offer from Merz
Pharma. Obagi Medical said that Merz Pharma is offering $22 per share
in cash to acquire the company. Valeant's earlier offer is worth
$19.75 per share in cash. Obagi said it would be evaluating the offer
from Merz Pharma.

Algenetix Scores $2M For Renewable Fuels Technology
----
San Diego-based Algenetix, a startup, industrial biotechnology firm,
announced Tuesday morning that it has raised $2.0M in a Series A-1
funding. The firm said it is developing technology which improves the
oil productivity in microbes, for the renewable oil industry. The
funding came from Two Oceans, Finistere Ventures, and other local San
Diego investors. Algenetix is an offshoot of Kapyon Ventures.
Algenetix is led by Han Chen; the firm's technology is being developed
in partnership with Dr. Janet Donaldson at Mississippi State
University.

OneHealth Raises $9M For Patient Health Technology

Solana Beach-based OneHealth, a developer of technology-based patient
health services, said today that it has raised $9M in a Series B
funding round. The funding was led by Lemhi Ventures. OneHealth says
it uses game mechanics, social networking, peer support communities
and clinical protocols to help patients manage their own health and
medical conditions. The firm is led by Bruce Springer.
