Mobile Roadie Queues Up Major Release
----
Los Angeles-based mobile application platform developer Mobile Roadie
has a big release up its sleeve, according to the company Thursday.
Mobile Roadie said that it is getting to set to release Mobile Roadie
v5, a brand new version of its platform, which enhances the software
for iOS6 and the iPhone 5, one-tap Facebook signin, polling features,
promotional features, personalized event schedules, and much more. The
firm did not say when it expects to roll out the updates. Mobile
Roadie's software is used to create custom, mobile applications, and
is heavily used by bands, artists, and others to create and release
their own suite of mobile apps. The firm is venture backed by  Mike
Jones, at Science Inc., Ashton Kutcher, and Guy Oseary, Madonna's
manager.

Qualcomm Technologies Ties Into Facebook Home
----
San Diego-based Qualcomm Incorporated jumped on the Facebook Home
bandwagon yesterday, saying that it has been working with Facebook to
optimize its new Facebook Home and Facebook for Android on Qualcomm
Snapdragon processors. Facebook's new offering, Facebook Home, is a a
set of Android apps which replace the normal Android home and
screensavers with social updates from Facebook, including providing
notifications, photos, status updates, and more throughout Android.
Facebook Home is initially rolling out on the HTC First, which is
powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon.

Receptos Files For IPO
----
San Diego-based biopharmaceuticals firm Receptos has filed for an IPO,
saying in a filing that it is looking to raise up to $86.3M in an
offering on the NASDAQ Global Market. The firm said it intends to list
as "RCPT". The firm's IPO is being underwritten by Credit Suisse,
Leerink Swann, BMO Capital Markets, and Wedbush PacGrow Life Sciences.
The firm is venture backed by ARCH Venture Partners, Flagship
Ventures, Lilly Ventures Fund, Polaris Ventures, and Venrock
Associates. Receptos is a biopharmaceuticals firm developing
treatments for immune disorders; the firm's lead compounds include an
oral therapy for treating Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis (RMS) and
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and a compound aimed at treating
Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE).

Althea Technologies Acquisition Completes
----
San Diego-based biopharmaceuticals contract manufacturer Althea
Technologies is now officially part of Japanese conglomerate Ajinomoto
Co., Inc., the firms said late Thursday, as the acquisition of Althea
completed. The firms said that Ajinomoto paid approximately $175M for
Althea Technologies. Althea has been renamed Ajinomoto Althea, Inc.
Althea was a provider of contract manufacturing services, and provided
both clinical and commercial product development services. The two had
originally announced the deal in March.

HYFN Acquired By LIN TV
----
Hermosa Beach-based digital agency HYFN has been sold to public firm
LIN TV, which owns a number of television stations as well as mobile
products, the firms said Thursday. Financial details of the buy were
not disclosed. HYFN was founded in 2000, and was part of Facebook's
Preferred Marketing Developer Program. HYFN was advised by Angeles
Capital Group's Peter Cowen and Andrew Williamson in the deal.

WhisperText Gets $3.0M
----
A stealthy, Santa Monica-based startup, WhisperText has raised $3.0
from Lightspeed Ventures, as well as a number of other high profile
investors. According to a regulatory filing from the company--which
develops an iOS app that allows users to share their secrets and meet
new people--the company involves such people as John Hadl (founder,
chairman of Total Beauty Media); Jeremy Liew (ShoeDazzle, Lightspeed
Venture Partners); and Brad Brooks (TigerText).. The filing indicates
22 investors participated in the funding. WhisperText released its app
on March 22nd.
