Irvine-based CrowdStrike, the developer of security software which was
founded by former McAfee CTO George Kurtz, has debuted its technology,
saying that it has created a platform which is aimed at stopping
security attacks and protecting users' intellectual property.

Quarterly Co. Snags Netflix Co-Founder As CEO
----
Hollywood-based Quarterly Co., the subscription gifts-by-mail startup
which delivers a box of curated gifts from a long list of influencers
to subscribers every three months, has a new CEO. The company said
today that Netflix co-founder Mitch Lowe has been appointed CEO of the
company, to help grow and expand the company's offerings. Lowe helped
co-found Netflix, and also was Chief Operating Officer and President
of Redbox Automated Retail; according to the company, Lowe has more
than 25 years in the video and rental industry. Quarterly's is backed
by True Ventures, Collaborative Fund, SV Angel, and others.

RFaxis Debuts WLAN Power Amplifier
----
Irvine-based semiconductor developer RFaxis said today that it has
begun mass production on a new, power amplifier (PA) aimed at the
wireless local area network market. RFAxis said its RX240 high power
2.4GHz PA is aimed at use in wireless access point, routers, set-top
boxes, home gateways, wireless hot spots, and other applications.
RFaxis develops CMOS-based semiconductors, which have a price
advantage over existing power amplifiers using more exotic
semiconductor technology such as Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) and Silicon
Germanium (SiGe). RFaxis is headed by Mike Neshat, and is one of the
few, semiconductor startups to successfully emerge out of the region
in recent years.

Emulex Certifies With Infortrend
----
Costa Mesa-based networking hardware provider Emulex has certified its
latest set of Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters with storage equipment
from Infortrend, the companies announced today. The two said that the
Emulex LightPulse 16G Fibre Channel HBAs were certified with
Infortrend's 16GFC EonStor DS G7i RAID storage systems. Both products
are used in data center storage area networks (SANs). 16G Fibre
Channel is the latest standard for speed in Fibre Channel networks,
which are used heavily in the data center market for back-end storage
connections.

OpenAirplane Targets Los Angeles With Airplane Rental Service
----
ech-savvy users who like services like Zipcar, Uber, RelayRides, and
Car2Go are used to being able to now rent and find cars by the hour or
day in areas like Los Angeles. So it's no surprise that airplane
pilots are getting their own version of those services, targeted at
letting pilots rent airplanes by smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Esri Powers uKnow.com's Family Locator Service
----
Redlands-based Esri is continuing to make inroads into the Internet
startup market, and has been tapped to power the family location
services of uKnow.com. uKnow said today that it is partnering with
Esri to use that company's geographical information systems technology
in a new, family locator service called uKnowLocate. Esri has been
working to supply its mapping technology to a wide range of startups,
expanding its market beyond its core business in the government and
large business market. Esri has been a longtime developer of
sophisticated mapping systems, but until recently has mostly been used
in enterprise applications. Details on the licensing deal with
uKnow.com was not announced  by the company.

Fisker Automotive Burnt Through $1.4 Billion
----
Anaheim-based Fisker Automotive, the troubled electric car maker, has
now burnt through $1.4 billion dollars in private and public funds,
according to Reuters. The amount of capital invested in Fisker makes
the company the highest profile flameout ever in Southern California's
startup history, far surpassing the mere $375M in venture capital
raised of of prior record holder Amp'd Mobile from back in 2007.
Fisker Automotive is apparently taking bids from investors to acquire
the firm, with at least one offer of a mere $20M for the company.

Demand Media's Designs.com Debuts To Power New gTLDs
----
Santa Monica-based Demand Media announced the launch of a new service,
Designs.com, which it says wil lhelp generic Top Level Domain
registrants create new websites. Demand Media explained athat
Designs.com will help users create their own websites on the new
gTLDs, offering up professional templates and online sites tied with
the new gTLDs, such as .ARCHITECT, .DENTIST, .SOCIAL, and .FAN. The
different templates will be tied to those different gTLDs. Demand
Media said the new site will be working with different partners who
are running those gTLDs to let users pick their new domains, choose a
template, and to host those sites.

Fullscreen Gets Funding For YouTube Network
----
Fullscreen, the online entertainment video site headed by George
Strompolos, announced this morning that it has raised a round of
Series A funding. Size of the funding was not announced. The round
came from The Chernin Group along with Comcast Ventures and WPP.
According to FullScreen, the new funding will go towards domestic and
intentional expansion, in the areas of technology, audience
development and sales. Strompolos helped co-create the YouTube Partner
Program. Fullscreen said its clients include NBCUniversal and Ryan
Seacrest Productions, and that it now has a network of over 10,000
channels, 150 million subscribers, and 2.5 billion monthly views.
Fullscreen also said it now has over 150 employees.
